"And each," meaning: those who were mentioned from among those who have passed (fol. 240b), "We set forth for them parables," meaning: We frightened them with the punishment. "And each We destroyed," meaning: We annihilated, "utterly," meaning: destroying them because of their rejection of their messengers.

﴿وكلا﴾ يَعْنِي: مَنْ ذُكِرَ مِمَّنْ مَضَى (ل ٢٤٠) ﴿ضربنا بِهِ الْأَمْثَال﴾ أَيْ: خَوَّفْنَاهُمُ الْعَذَابَ ﴿وَكُلًّا تَبَّرْنَا﴾ أهلكنا ﴿تتبيرا﴾ إهلاكا بتكذيبهم رسلهم.
