Muhammad said: It means he follows his desire and abandons the truth; so it is to him like a god. "Can you then be a guardian over him?" meaning, a protector who preserves his deeds for him until you recompense him for them? That is: you are not a Lord; you are only a warner.
Surat al-Furqan from (verse 44 to verse 49).
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: يَقُولُ: يَتَّبِعُ هَوَاهُ وَيَدَعُ الْحَقَّ؛ فَهُوَ لَهُ كَالْإِلَهِ ﴿أفأنت تكون عَلَيْهِ وَكيلا﴾ حَفِيظًا تَحْفَظُ عَلَيْهِ عَمَلَهُ حَتَّى تُجَازِيَهُ بِهِ؛ أَيْ: أَنَّكَ لَسْتَ بِرَبّ، إِنَّمَا أَنْت نَذِير.
سُورَة الْفرْقَان من (آيَة ٤٤ آيَة ٤٩).
