Muhammad said: His saying "in succession" (khilfatan) means that one succeeds the other. Similar to this is the saying of Zuhayr:
(In it, the large-eyed gazelles and the white antelopes walk in succession... and their young rise from every resting place)
Al-rim (the white antelope) is the young of the gazelle, and its plural is arām. He means: when one group departs, another group comes.
Surah Al-Furqan from (verse 63 to verse 67).
النَّهَارِ كَانَ لَهُ فِي اللَّيْلِ مُسْتَعْتَبٌ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: قَوْلُهُ: ﴿خِلْفَةً﴾ يَعْنِي: يخلف هَذَا هَذَا، وَمِثْلُهُ قَوْلُ زُهَيرٍ:
(بِهَا الْعِينُ وَالْآرَامُ يَمْشِينَ خِلْفَةً … وَأَطْلَاؤُهَا يَنْهَضْنَ مِنْ كُلِّ مَجْثَمِ)
الرِّيمُ: وَلَدُ الظَّبْيِ، وَجَمْعُهُ آرَامُ، يَقُولُ: إِذَا ذهب فَوْج جَاءَ فَوْج.
سُورَة الْفرْقَان من (آيَة ٦٣ آيَة ٦٧).
