God said: "No!" meaning: they shall not be the ones who reach you to kill you, until you have conveyed the message from Me. Then He resumed the speech and said: "Go both of you with Our signs, indeed We are with you, listening. So go to Pharaoh and say: 'Indeed we are the messenger of the Lord of the worlds.'" He says this to Moses and Aaron. It is an expression used in the speech of the Arabs; a man might say to another: "Who was your messenger (rasul) to so-and-so?" and he might reply: "Such-and-such, and such-and-such, and such-and-such."
Muhammad said: "The term 'messenger' (rasul) can carry the meaning of the collective (jam'), and Yahya inclined towards this view. It may also mean 'message' (risalah), and from this is the saying of the poet:
(The slanderers have lied; I did not utter/any evil before them, nor did I send them with a messenger/message)
Meaning: with a message. So whoever interprets "Indeed we are the messenger (rasul)" as meaning "message" (risalah) says: the meaning is, "Indeed we are bearers of the message of the Lord of the worlds."
