"And in Thamud" [51:43], and it is like the first [instance], "when it was said to them: Enjoy yourselves for a while" [51:43], until your appointed times without punishment if you believe, but if you disobey, you will be punished. "But they were insolent against the command of their Lord" [51:44], meaning they abandoned His command, "so the thunderbolt seized them" [51:44], meaning the punishment, "while they were looking on" [51:44], at the punishment.
﴿وَفِي ثَمُود﴾ وَهِي مثل الأولى ﴿إِذْ قِيلَ لَهُم تمَتَّعُوا حَتَّى حِين﴾ إِلَى آجالكم بِغَيْر عَذَاب إِن آمنتم، وَإِن عصيتم عذبتم ﴿فَعَتَوْا عَن أَمر رَبهم﴾ تركُوا أمره ﴿فَأَخَذتهم الصاعقة﴾ الْعَذَاب ﴿وهم ينظرُونَ﴾ إِلَى الْعَذَاب
