{Let them then produce a discourse like it}—like the Quran—{if they are truthful}—that is: they will not produce anything like it, and they do not possess the ability to do so.
﴿فليأتوا بِحَدِيث مثله﴾ مثل الْقُرْآن ﴿إِنْ كَانُوا صَادِقِينَ﴾ أَي: لَا يأْتونَ بِمثلِهِ، وَلَيْسَ ذَلِك عِنْدهم
