{Or were they created from nothing}—that is: they were not created from nothing; rather, We created them from a drop of fluid, and the beginning of that was from dust. {Or are they the creators}—that is: they are not the creators, for they are the created.
﴿أَمْ خُلِقُوا مِنْ غَيْرِ شَيْءٍ﴾ أَي: لمْ يخلقوا من غير شَيْء خلقناهم من نُطْفَة وَأول ذَلِك من ترابٍ ﴿أَمْ هُمُ الْخَالِقُونَ﴾ أَي: لَيْسُوا بالخالقين وهم مخلوقون
