"Endowed with soundness of judgment," which also refers to the intensity of creation. "Then he became established," meaning Gabriel became established near Muhammad; that is, he saw him in his [original] form, whereas Muhammad used to see Gabriel in a form other than his own.
﴿ذُو مرّة﴾ وَهُوَ من شدَّة الْخلق أَيْضا ﴿فَاسْتَوَى﴾ اسْتَوَى جِبْرِيل عِنْد محمدٍ؛ أَي: رَآهُ فِي صورته، وَكَانَ محمدٌ يرى جِبْرِيل فِي غير صورته.
