His saying: "Humbled are their eyes," means: Turn away from them, for you will see them on the Day of Resurrection with their eyes humbled. This was before the command to fight. "Coming forth from the graves," meaning from the tombs, "as if they were locusts spread about." In the interpretation of al-Hasan, he likened them to locusts, which, when overtaken by night, cling to the ground, but when morning comes and the sun rises upon them, they scatter.
قَوْله: ﴿خشعا أَبْصَارهم﴾ يَقُول: فتولَّ عَنْهُم فستراهم يَوْم الْقِيَامَة ذليلة أَبْصَارهم، وَكَانَ هَذَا قبل أَن يُؤمر بِالْقِتَالِ ﴿يَخْرُجُونَ من الأجداث﴾ من الْقُبُور ﴿كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُنْتَشِرٌ﴾ تَفْسِير الْحسن شبَّههم بالجراد إِذا أدْركهُ اللَّيْل لزم الأَرْض، فَإِذا أصبح وطلع عَلَيْهِ الشَّمْس انْتَشَر
