"That the People of the Scripture may know," this is an Arabic expression; he says: "so that they may know" and "so that they may not know" have the same meaning. "That they have no power over anything," meaning: that they have no power over anything "of the bounty of Allah, and that all bounty is in the hand of Allah; He gives it to whom He wills, and Allah is the Possessor of Great Bounty."
﴿لِئَلَّا يعلم أهل الْكتاب﴾ هَذِه كلمةٌ عربيَّة يَقُول: لِئَلَّا يعْلمَ وليعلمَ بِمَعْنى وَاحِد ﴿أَلَا يَقْدِرُونَ عَلَى شَيْءٍ﴾ أَي: أَنهم لَا يقدرُونَ على شَيْءٍ ﴿مِنْ فَضْلِ اللَّهِ وَأَنَّ الْفَضْلَ بِيَدِ اللَّهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَاللَّهُ ذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ﴾.
