"And to Solomon, the wind" means: We subjected the wind to Solomon. "Its morning [journey] was a month and its evening [journey] was a month." Al-Hasan said: When Solomon wanted to travel, the wind would come, and he would place his throne upon it, along with chairs and seating. He would sit, and the prominent among his companions would sit in their respective stations of religious rank, both jinn and humans at that time. The jinn were visible to humans at that time, all performing Hajj together and praying together. The birds would hover over his head and their heads, and the devils were his guards, not allowing anyone to step in front of him. "And We made a spring of molten copper flow for him" means: brass. In the interpretation of Mujahid, it flowed for him like water. "And among the jinn were those who worked before him by the permission of his Lord" means: the subjugated ones whom Allah subjected to him. "And whoever among them deviated from Our command" means: from the obedience to Allah and His worship, "We would make him taste of the punishment of the Blaze" in the Hereafter.
﴿ولسليمان الرّيح﴾ أَي: وسخرنا لِسُلَيْمَان الرّيح ﴿غُدُوُّهَا شهر ورواحها شهر﴾ قَالَ الْحَسَن: وَكَانَ سُلَيْمَان إِذا أَرَادَ أَن يركب جَاءَت الرّيح فَوضع سَرِير مَمْلَكَته عَلَيْهَا وَوضع الكراسي والمجالس عَلَى الرّيح، وَجلسَ وُجُوه أَصْحَابه عَلَى مَنَازِلهمْ فِي الدِّين من الْجِنّ وَالْإِنْس يومئذٍ، وَالْجِنّ يَوْمئِذٍ ظَاهِرَة للإنس يَحُجُّون جَمِيعًا وَيصلونَ جَمِيعًا، وَالطير ترفرف عَلَى رَأسه ورءوسهم، وَالشَّيَاطِين حَرسُه لَا يتركون أحدا يتقدَّم بَين يَدَيْهِ ﴿وَأَسَلْنَا لَهُ عَيْنَ الْقِطْرِ﴾ يَعْنِي: الصُّفر؛ فِي تَفْسِير مُجَاهِد سَالَتْ لَهُ مثل المَاء ﴿وَمِنَ الْجِنِّ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ بِإِذن ربه﴾ يَعْنِي: السُّخرة الَّتِي سخّرها اللَّه لَهُ ﴿وَمَنْ يَزِغْ مِنْهُمْ عَنْ أمرنَا﴾ يَعْنِي: عَن طَاعَة اللَّه وعبادته ﴿نذقه من عَذَاب السعير﴾ فِي الْآخِرَة
