[They are] a host that is there," meaning: a host [that is] there, and "ma" (what) is an additional conjunctive particle, "defeated among the factions." He is informing [them] that Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) will defeat them on the day of Badr.
﴿جند مَا هُنَالك﴾ أَي: جند هُنَالك , و " مَا " صلَة زَائِدَة ﴿مَهْزُومٌ مِنَ الأَحْزَابِ﴾ يُخْبر بأنْ مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ سيهزمهم يَوْم بدر
