Then an angel from God came to him and said: 'O David, lift your head, for God has forgiven you.' He knew that God had forgiven him, then he wanted to know how He would forgive him, so he said: 'O my Lord, how do You forgive me when I have killed him?' — meaning: by intention. He said: 'I will ask him to bestow his soul to Me, so he will bestow it to Me, and I will forgive it for you.' He said: 'O my Lord, I have known that You have forgiven me.'
فَأَتَاهُ ملكٌ من عِنْد اللَّه فَقَالَ: يَا دَاوُد، ارْفَعْ رَأسك , فقد غفر اللَّه لَك. فَعلم أنّ اللَّه قد غفر لَهُ، ثمَّ أَرَادَ أَن يعلم كَيفَ يغْفر لَهُ؛ فَقَالَ: أيْ رب، كَيفَ تغْفر لي وَقد قتلته - يَعْنِي: بالنيّة؟! فَقَالَ: أستوهبه نفسَهُ فيهبها لي فأغفرها لَك. فَقَالَ: أَي رب , قد علمت أَنَّك قد غفرت لي.
