"And it is not your wealth, nor your children, that bring you closer to Us in position," - al-zulfa means: closeness. "Except for him who has believed," meaning: there is no closeness to Us except for one who believes and does righteous deeds. "For them there will be a double reward," meaning: the multiplication of good deeds, like His saying: "Whoever comes with a good deed will have ten times the like thereof." Then, it was revealed after that in Medina: "The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed of grain that grows seven spikes," up to the end of the verse.
﴿وَمَا أَمْوَالُكُمْ وَلا أَوْلادُكُمْ بِالَّتِي تقربكم عندنَا زلفى﴾ الزلفى: الْقرْبَة ﴿إِلا مَنْ آمَنَ﴾ أَي: لَيْسَ الْقرْبَة عندنَا إِلَّا لمن آمن وَعمل صَالحا ﴿فَأُولَئِكَ لَهُم جَزَاء الضعْف﴾ يَعْنِي: تَضْعِيف الْحَسَنَات؛ كَقَوْلِه ﴿مَنْ جَاءَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ فَلَهُ عَشْرُ أَمْثَالِهَا﴾ ثمَّ نزل بعد ذَلكَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ: ﴿مَثَلُ الَّذِينَ يُنْفِقُونَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ حَبَّةٍ أَنْبَتَتْ سبع سنابل﴾ الْآيَة.
