Yahya reported, from Aban ibn Abi Ayyash, from Abu al-Aliyah al-Riyahi, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, who said: "The Lord, Blessed and Exalted is He, shall come on the Day of Resurrection amidst the angels of the seventh heaven, the number of whom none knows except Allah. Then, Paradise shall be brought forth with its gates opened, such that every righteous person and every wicked person sees it, with the angels of mercy upon it, until it is placed to the right of the Throne. Its fragrance shall be sensed from a distance of five hundred years. He said: And the Fire shall be brought forth, led by seventy thousand reins, each rein being pulled by seventy thousand angels. Its gates shall be open, and upon it shall be black angels, with them are long chains, heavy shackles, garments of tar, and garments of fire. Their eyes shall have a gleam like lightning, and their faces shall have a flame like fire. Their eyes shall be fixed, not looking toward the Lord of the Throne [out of reverence for Him]. When [fol. 303] the Fire draws near, and there is between it and the creatures a distance of five hundred years, it shall let out a blast. No one shall remain who does not fall onto his knees, and trembling shall seize him, and his heart shall become suspended in his throat, neither emerging nor returning to its place. That is the meaning of His saying: 'When the hearts are at the throats, suppressing grief.' Abraham shall call out: 'O Lord, do not destroy me for my sin!' Noah and Jonah shall call out likewise. The Fire shall be placed to the left of the Throne, then the Balance shall be brought and placed before the All-Compelling (Al-Jabbar), then the creatures shall be called for the reckoning." Muhammad said: The Day of Resurrection is called 'Al-Azifah' (the Imminent) because it is near, even if people consider its duration remote. It is said: 'Azifat' (it has approached) 'ta'zafu' 'azfan', and an affair is said to have 'azafa' when it draws near. 'Kazimin' (suppressing) is in the accusative case as a state (hal), and the root of 'kazm' is confinement.
