"[And when they argue within the Fire, the weak will say]"—meaning: the base and lowly—"[to those who had been arrogant]"—meaning: the leaders in misguidance—"[Indeed, we were your followers]"—that is: you called us to misguidance and we obeyed you—"[so will you relieve us of a portion]"—that is: a part—"[of the Fire]."
Tafsir of Surah Ghafir from verse 49 to verse 52.
﴿وَإِذْ يَتَحَاجُّونَ فِي النَّارِ فَيَقُولُ الضُّعَفَاء﴾ يَعْنِي: السفلة ﴿للَّذين استكبروا﴾ يَعْنِي: الرؤساء فِي الضَّلَالَة ﴿إِنَّا كُنَّا لكم تبعا﴾ أَي: دعوتمونا إِلَى الضَّلَالَة فأطعناكم ﴿فَهَلْ أَنْتُمْ مُغْنُونَ عَنَّا نَصِيبًا﴾ أَي: جُزْءا ﴿من النَّار﴾.
