"Then He rose towards the heaven" - Muhammad said: Meaning, He directed His intent toward it. "And it was smoke" - connected to the earth, according to the tafsir of al-Hasan. "He said to it and to the earth, 'Come, willingly or unwillingly'" - by way of subjugation and omnipotence. He said this to them before He created them. "They both said, 'We have come willingly'" - meaning, with what is within them. Muhammad said: "Willingly or unwillingly" is in the position of: 'Obey willingly with obedience, or be compelled unwillingly with compulsion.'
