"Then He completed them," meaning: He created them "as seven heavens" in two days, "and inspired in each heaven its command." Mujahid said: Meaning, His command that He placed therein from what He willed. "And We have adorned the lowest heaven with lamps," meaning: the stars. "And as protection," meaning: We made the stars as a protection for the heaven against the devils, so they do not hear the revelation, and that is after the sending of Muhammad (peace be upon him).
﴿فقضاهن﴾ يَعْنِي: خَلقهنَّ ﴿سبع سماوات﴾ فِي يَوْمَيْنِ ﴿وَأَوْحَى فِي كُلِّ سَمَاء أمرهَا﴾ قَالَ مُجَاهِد: يَعْنِي: أمره الَّذِي جعل فِيهَا مِمَّا أَرَادَ ﴿وزينا السَّمَاء الدُّنْيَا بمصابيح﴾ يَعْنِي: النُّجُوم ﴿وحفظا﴾ أَي: جعلنَا النُّجُوم حفظا للسماء من الشَّيَاطِين لَا يسمعُونَ الْوَحْي , وَذَلِكَ بعد بعث محمدٍ ﷺ.
