"Do not listen to this Qur'an and make noise during it." Al-Suddi said: It was revealed regarding Abu Jahl ibn Hisham, who used to say to his companions: "If you hear Muhammad's recitation, raise your voices with poetry so that his recitation becomes confused for Muhammad." "Perhaps you will overcome [him]," meaning: perhaps your religion will overcome the religion of Muhammad.
Muhammad [Ibn Abi Zamanin] said: "Al-laghw" (noise/vain talk) in the language is speech from which no benefit or utility is obtained, and whose essence is not understood. It is said [of one who engages in it]: "lagha," and there is another dialect for it: "laghiya."
