His statement: "And of His signs is that you see the earth humbled"—meaning: dusty and withered—"but when We send down upon it rain, it quivers and grows," meaning: it swells for vegetation, and "quivers" with its vegetation when it sprouts. "Indeed, He who has given it life is the Giver of life to the dead." This is a similitude for the resurrection.
قَوْله: ﴿وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ أَنَّكَ تَرَى الأَرْض خاشعة﴾ يَعْنِي: غبراء متهشمة ﴿فَإِذَا أَنْزَلْنَا عَلَيْهَا المَاء اهتزت وربت﴾ يَعْنِي: انتفخت [فِيهَا تَقْدِيم ﴿ربت﴾] للنبات ﴿واهتزت﴾ بنباتها إِذا أنبتت ﴿إِنَّ الَّذِي أَحْيَاهَا لمحيي الْمَوْتَى﴾ وَهَذَا مثل للبعث
