"And if We had made it a non-Arabic Quran, they would have said, 'Why'"—meaning, why were not "its verses explained in detail?" That is, clarified. "Is it non-Arabic and Arabic?" This refers to the recitation of those who read it without an interrogative, and those who read it with an interrogative lengthened it: "Is it non-Arabic and Arabic?" That is, they would have said: A non-Arabic book and an Arabic Prophet, using that as an argument; meaning, how can this be?!
﴿وَلَو جَعَلْنَاهُ قُرْآنًا أعجميا لقالوا لَوْلَا﴾ هلا ﴿فصلت آيَاته﴾ أَي: بيّنت ﴿أعجمي وعربي﴾ أَي: بالعجمية والعربية على مقرأ من قَرَأَهَا بِغَيْر اسْتِفْهَام وَمن قَرَأَهَا على الِاسْتِفْهَام مدّها ﴿أعجمي وعربي﴾ أَي: لقالوا: كتاب أعجمي (وَنَبِي) عَرَبِيّ يحتجون بذلك؛ أَي: كَيفَ يكون هَذَا؟!
