"And We gave Moses the Book," the Torah. "But it was disputed over," as one group acted upon it, while another group disbelieved in it. "And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord"—meaning that He would not reckon [them] with the reckoning of the Hereafter while in this world—He would have brought them to account in this world, then He would have admitted the people of Paradise into Paradise and the people of the Fire into the Fire. This is the interpretation of al-Hasan. "And indeed they are, concerning it, in doubt," from the punishment, "unsettling," from suspicion.
Interpretation of Surah Fussilat from verse 47 to verse 50.
﴿وَلَقَد آتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكتاب﴾ التَّوْرَاة ﴿فَاخْتُلِفَ فِيهِ﴾ عمل بِهِ قوم , وَكفر بِهِ قَوْمٌ ﴿وَلَوْلا كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِنْ رَبك﴾ أَلا يُحَاسِبَ بِحِسَابِ الآخِرَةِ فِي الدُّنْيَا لحاسبهم فِي الدُّنْيَا , فَأَدْخَلَ أَهْلَ الْجَنَّةِ الْجنَّة , وَأهل النَّار النارَ , وَهَذَا تَفْسِير الْحسن ﴿وَإِنَّهُمْ لَفِي شَكٍّ مِّنْهُ﴾ من الْعَذَاب ﴿مريب﴾ من الرِّيبَة.
