“In order that you may warn the Mother of Cities (Umm al-Qura),” which is Makkah, from which the earth was spread out, “and those around it,” meaning: all the horizons. “And you may warn of the Day of Assembly,” which is the Day of Resurrection, in which the created beings shall be gathered: the inhabitants of the heavens and the inhabitants of the earth.
﴿لِّتُنذِرَ أُمَّ الْقُرَى﴾ مكَّة مِنْهَا دُحِيتِ الأرضُ ﴿وَمَنْ حَوْلَهَا﴾ يَعْنِي: الْآفَاق كلهَا ﴿وَتُنذِرَ يَوْمَ الْجَمْعِ﴾ يَوْم الْقِيَامَة؛ يجْتَمع فِيهِ الْخَلَائق: أهل السَّمَاوَات، وَأهل الأَرْض
