Regarding His saying: "By those ranked in ranks" (al-Saffat: 1), Qatadah said: "Meaning the ranks of the angels."
Yahya reported from Ibrahim ibn Muhammad, from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The heaven has creaked, and it has the right to creak; there is not in it a space of a span but there is an angel upon it who is standing, bowing, or prostrating."
Muhammad said: "Al-atit" (creaking) is a sound.
