"Then, if We take you away"—meaning, if We cause you to die—up to His saying: "are indeed capable." Allah revealed verses regarding the polytheists—this one and others similar to it—concerning the punishment He promised them. Some of that occurred on the Day of Badr, while some of it will occur upon the establishment of the Hour with the first blast of the Trumpet, by which the destruction of the disbelievers of the end of this nation shall take place.
﴿فإمَّا نذهبن بك﴾ أَي: نتوفينك إِلَى قَوْله: ﴿مُقْتَدِرُونَ﴾ أنزل الله آيَات فِي الْمُشْركين هَذِه وأشباهها مِمَّا وعدهم بِهِ من الْعَذَاب؛ فَكَانَ بعض ذَلِك يَوْم بدر، وَبَعضه يكون مَعَ قيام السَّاعَة بالنفخة الأولى؛ بهَا يكون هلاكُ كفَّار آخر هَذِه الْأمة.
