'And if We willed, We could have made from among you angels succeeding one another upon the earth,' meaning: inhabiting the earth in your place.

﴿وَلَوْ نَشَاءُ لَجَعَلْنَا مِنْكُمْ مَلائِكَةً فِي الأَرْض يخلفون﴾ أَي: يعْمرون الأَرْض بَدَلا مِنْكُم.
