"Then they turned away from him and said: 'One taught, a madman.'" (They meant) that a servant [to the Prophet] from Hadramawt teaches him, and he was a soothsayer; according to the Tafsir of al-Hasan. Some said: it was Addas, the servant of Utbah ibn Rabi'ah; he used to read the (scriptural) books.
﴿ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا مُعَلَّمٌ مَجْنُون﴾ يُعلمهُ عبد [لنَبِيّ] الْحَضْرَمِيّ، وَكَانَ كَاهِنًا؛ فِي تَفْسِير الْحسن. وَقَالَ بَعضهم: عداس غُلَام عتبَة بن ربيعَة؛ كَانَ يقْرَأ الْكتب،
