[Say, (O Muhammad), to those who have believed that they (should) forgive those who do not look forward to the days of Allah]—meaning: the polytheists. Allah commanded the believers to forgive them [so that He may recompense a people for what they used to earn]—meaning: (what they) used to do. He will recompense the believers for their forbearance toward the polytheists, and He will recompense the polytheists for their polytheism. And it was
﴿قُلْ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يَغْفِرُوا لِلَّذِينَ لَا يرجون أَيَّام الله﴾ يَعْنِي: الْمُشْركين؛ فَأمر الله الْمُؤمنِينَ أَن يغفروا لَهُم ﴿لِيَجْزِيَ قَوْمًا بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ﴾ يعْملُونَ؛ يَجْزِي الْمُؤمنِينَ بحلمهم عَن الْمُشْركين، وَيجْزِي الْمُشْركين بشركهم، وَكَانَ
