"And he who says to his parents, 'Uff to you both! Do you promise me that I will be brought forth [i.e., resurrected],' while generations have passed before me," and they were not resurrected.
Muhammad said: "Uff" is a word of annoyance, and its explanation and derivation have already been discussed more extensively than this in Surat Subhan [Al-Isra'] and Surat Al-Anbiya'.
He said: "And they are seeking the aid of Allah [saying], 'Woe to you! Believe,'" meaning: they say that to him, "'Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth'" [regarding] the Resurrection. "But he says, 'This is not but legends of the former peoples,'" [meaning] the lies and falsehoods of the former peoples. It was revealed regarding Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr before he embraced Islam, and regarding his parents: Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and his wife, Umm Ruman.
