"And whoever does not respond to the caller of Allah"—meaning: the Prophet; that is: he does not believe—"shall not escape in the earth," meaning: he is not one who can outstrip Allah such that He would not resurrect him.

Yahya [narrated] from al-Salt ibn Dinar, from Habib ibn Abi Fadala, from Awf ibn Abd Allah ibn Utba, from Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud who said: "We went out for Hajj—or Umrah—and when we were on the road, a windstorm arose. A dust cloud lifted from the earth, and when it was over our heads, it revealed a white jinn—meaning: a snake. We descended, and Safwan ibn al-Mu'attal lagged behind, saw it, poured [water] over it from his water container, took out a cloth from his saddlebag, shrouded it in it, then buried it and followed us. Then, some women came at the time of Isha, greeted us, and said: 'Which of you buried Amr ibn Jabir?' We said: 'By Allah, we do not know [any] Amr ibn Jabir!' Safwan said: 'I saw a white jinn and buried it.' [One of them] said: 'That was Amr ibn Jabir, one of the remaining [jinn] who had listened to the Messenger of Allah reciting the Quran among the jinn. Two armies of jinn met: an army of Muslims and an army of disbelievers, and he was martyred, may Allah have mercy on him.'"

﴿وَمَنْ لَا يُجِبْ دَاعِيَ اللَّهِ﴾ يَعْنِي: النَّبِي؛ أَي: لَا يُؤمن ﴿فَلَيْسَ بِمُعْجِزٍ فِي الأَرْض﴾ فَلَيْسَ بِالَّذِي يسْبق اللَّه حَتَّى لَا يبْعَث.

يَحْيَى: عَنِ الصَّلْتِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أبي فضَالة، عَن عَوْف بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: " خَرَجْنَا حَاجِّينَ - أَوْ مُعْتَمِرِينَ - حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِالطَّرِيقِ هَاجَتْ رِيحٌ، فَارْتَفَعَتْ عَجَاجَةٌ مِنَ الأَرْضِ، حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَتْ عَلَى رُءُوسِنَا تَكَشَّفَتْ عَنْ جَانٍّ بَيْضَاءَ - يَعْنِي: حَيَّةً - فَنَزَلْنَا، وَتَخَلَّفَ صَفْوَانُ بْنُ الْمُعَطَّلِ فَأَبْصَرَهَا، فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهَا مِنْ مِطْهَرَتِهِ، وَأَخْرَجَ خِرْقَةً مِنْ عَيْبَتِهِ فَكَفَّنَهَا فِيهَا، ثُمَّ دَفَنَهَا ثُمَّ اتَّبَعَنَا، فَإِذَا بِنِسْوَةٍ قَدْ جِئْنَ عِنْدَ الْعِشَاءِ فَسَلَّمْنَ، فَقُلْنَ: أَيُّكُمْ دَفَنَ عَمْرَو بْنَ جَابِرٍ؟ قُلْنَا: وَاللَّهِ مَا نَعْرِفُ عَمْرَو بْنَ جَابِرٍ! فَقَالَ صَفْوَانُ: أَبْصَرْتُ جَانًّا بَيْضَاءَ فَدَفَنْتُهَا. قُلْتُ: فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ عَمْرُو بْنُ جَابِرٍ بَقِيَّةُ مَنِ اسْتمع إِلَى رَسُول الله قِرَاءَةَ الْقُرْآنِ مِنَ الْجِنِّ، الْتَقَى زَحْفَانِ مِنَ الْجِنِّ: زَحْفٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ، وَزَحْفٌ مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ، فَاسْتُشْهِدَ رحمه الله ".
