{So do they wait}—meaning, what are they waiting for?—{except for the Hour}—the first blast [of the Trumpet] through which Allah will destroy the disbelievers of the end of this nation—{that it should come upon them unexpectedly?}—suddenly—{For already its portents have come.} The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was one of its portents, and its portents are many, among them the splitting of the moon and the stoning of the devils with stars.

Muhammad said: The meaning of (ashratuha) is its signs. The singular is sharat—with a fat-hah. Some have recited poetry:

(If you have determined to sever ties between us … then the signs of its beginning have already begun to appear.)

Yahya, on the authority of Abu al-Ashhab, on the authority of al-Hasan, said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "My likeness and the likeness of the Hour is like these two. He did not prioritize one over the other, and he joined his middle finger and the one people call: the index finger."
