His statement: "Those who hold evil assumptions about Allah"—they used to say: Muhammad and his companions and his religion will perish. "Upon them is a cycle of evil," meaning: destruction in the Hereafter. "And wretched is the destination," meaning: and what a wretched place of return.
قَوْله: ﴿الظَّانِّينَ بِاللَّهِ ظَنَّ السَّوْءِ﴾ كَانُوا يَقُولُونَ: يهلكُ محمدٌ وَأَصْحَابه وَدينه ﴿عَلَيْهِم دَائِرَة السوء﴾ يَعْنِي: الْهَلَاك فِي الْآخِرَة ﴿وَسَاءَتْ مصيرا﴾ أَي: وبئست الْمصير.
