'Allah was certainly pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you under the tree.' Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah said: 'It was a samura tree under which we pledged allegiance to him, and we were fourteen hundred—meaning one thousand and four hundred—and 'Umar was holding his hand. We all pledged allegiance to him, except for Jadd ibn Qays, who hid under the armpit of his camel.' Jabir said: 'We did not pledge allegiance at any tree except the tree that was at al-Hudaybiyah.'
He said: 'He knew what was in their hearts,' that they were truthful, 'so He sent down tranquility upon them.' According to al-Hasan's interpretation, the tranquility is dignity. 'And He rewarded them with an imminent victory,' meaning Khaybar.
