[The Bedouin say, "We have believed"] (Quran 49:14), meaning: the hypocrites—to [Say, "You have not believed; but say, 'We have submitted'"]. The interpretation of Qatada: But say, the sword. [And faith has not yet entered your hearts. And if you obey Allah and His Messenger] in private and in public, [He will not deprive you]—meaning He will not diminish [from your deeds anything].
﴿قَالَت الْأَعْرَاب آمنا﴾ يَعْنِي: الْمُنَافِقين (ل ٣٣٤) من ﴿قُلْ لَمْ تُؤْمِنُوا وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا أسلمنَا﴾ تَفْسِير قَتَادَة: وَلَكِن قُولُوا: السَّيْف ﴿وَلَمَّا يَدْخُلِ الإِيمَانُ فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ وَإِن تطيعوا الله وَرَسُوله﴾ فِي السِّرّ وَالْعَلَانِيَة ﴿لَا يَلِتْكُمْ﴾ لَا ينقصكم ﴿مِنْ أَعْمَالِكُمْ شَيْئًا﴾.
