'O Prophet, fight against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh with them.' The interpretation of Qatadah: He means, fight the disbelievers with the sword, and be harsh with the hypocrites through the application of the prescribed punishments (hudud). ﴿يَا أَيهَا النَّبِيُّ جَاهِدِ الْكُفَّارَ وَالْمُنَافِقِينَ وَاغْلُظْ عَلَيْهِم﴾ تَفْسِيرُ قَتَادَةَ: يَعْنِي: جَاهِدِ الْكُفَّارَ بِالسَّيْفِ، وَاغْلُظْ عَلَى الْمُنَافِقِينَ بِالْحُدُودِ. تَفْسِير سُورَة الْحَرِيم من آيه (١٠ - ١٢)
