Allah says: "And indeed, there were men from among mankind who sought refuge in men from among the jinn, so they increased them in burden." The explanation of al-Kalbi is that in the pre-Islamic era, whenever a man from among mankind was traveling and night fell upon him in a desolate land, he would call out: "I seek refuge in the master of this valley from the foolish among his people," and thus he would spend the night protected by him until morning. "So they increased them in burden," meaning the jinn increased in sin because of them seeking refuge in them.
