His saying: "O you who are wrapped in your garments (al-Muddaththir)", meaning the one who has wrapped himself in his garments; he means the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). Jabir ibn Abd Allah said: "This is the first verse that was revealed to the Prophet."
Yahya said: "The general consensus is that the first thing revealed was 'Read in the name of your Lord who created' (Iqra' bi-ismi rabbika alladhi khalaq)."
Muhammad said: "Ibn Abbas used to interpret al-Muddaththir as: one who has wrapped himself in his garments and covered his head."
