"Indeed, these"—meaning the polytheists—"love the immediate"—the worldly life—"and leave behind them"—meaning before them—"a heavy day"—a difficult one for them; meaning: the Day of Resurrection.
﴿إِن هَؤُلَاءِ﴾ يَعْنِي: الْمُشْركين ﴿يحبونَ العاجلة﴾ الدُّنْيَا ﴿ويذرون وَرَاءَهُمْ﴾ أمامهم ﴿يَوْمًا ثقيلا﴾ عَسِيرًا عَلَيْهِمْ؛ يَعْنِي: يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
