"And when the souls are paired," Al-Hasan's interpretation is: that is, every sect will join its counterpart: the Jews with the Jews, the Christians with the Christians, the Magians with the Magians, and everyone who worshipped something other than Allah will join those who did likewise, the hypocrite men with the hypocrite women, and the believing men with the believing women.
﴿وَإِذا النُّفُوس زوجت﴾ تَفْسِيرُ الْحَسَنِ: أَيْ: تَلْحَقُ كُلُّ شِيعَةٍ بِشِيعَتِهَا: الْيَهُودُ بِالْيَهُودِ، وَالنَّصَارَى بِالنَّصَارَى، وَالْمَجُوسُ بِالْمَجُوسِ، وَكُلُّ مَنْ كَانَ يَعْبُدُ مِنْ دُونِ اللَهِ شَيْئا بضهم ببعضهم، والمنافقون بالمنافقات، والمؤمنون بالمؤمنات.
