"And your Lord will come, and the angels, rank upon rank." The interpretation of al-Suddi: It means the rows of the angels, with every people of a heaven separately.
Yahya said: A man from the people of Kufa narrated to me, from Layth, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, who said: "When the Day of Resurrection occurs, the earth will be stretched out like the stretching of the leather of 'Ukaz. Then Allah will gather within it the creatures from among the Jinn and mankind. Then they will take their places in rows upon the earth. Then the people of the lowest heaven will descend, equal in number to those who are on the earth, and with them, an equal number of them from the Jinn and mankind. Until, when they are above the heads of the creatures, the earth will be illuminated by their faces, and the people of the earth will fall down prostrating, and they will say: 'Is our Lord among you?' They will say: 'He is not among us, and He is coming.' Then they will take their places in rows upon the earth. Then the people of the second heaven will descend, equal in number to those who are on the earth from among the Jinn and mankind."
﴿وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا﴾ تَفْسِيرُ السُّدِّيِّ: يَعْنِي: صُفُوفَ الْمَلائِكَةِ كُلَّ أَهْلِ سَمَاءٍ عَلَى حِدَةٍ.
قَالَ يَحْيَى: وَحَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ قَالَ: " إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ مُدَّتِ الْأَرْضُ مَدَّ الْأَدِيمِ الْعُكَاظِيِّ ثُمَّ يَحْشُرُ اللَّهُ فِيهَا الْخَلائِقَ مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنْسِ، ثُمَّ أَخَذُوا مَصَافَّهُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ يَنْزِلُ أَهْلُ السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا بِمِثْلِ مَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ، وَبِمِثْلِهِمْ مَعَهُمْ مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنْسِ، حَتَّى إِذَا كَانُوا عَلَى رُءُوسِ الْخَلائِقِ أَضَاءَتِ الْأَرْضُ لِوُجُوهِهِمْ، وَخَرَّ أَهْلُ الْأَرْضِ سَاجِدِينَ، وَقَالُوا: أَفِيكُمْ رَبُّنَا؟! قَالُوا: لَيْسَ فِينَا وَهُوَ آتٍ. ثُمَّ أَخَذُوا مَصَافَّهُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ، ثُمَّ يَنْزِلُ أَهْلُ السَّمَاءِ الثَّانِيَةِ بِمِثِلِ مَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنْسِ
