"Nay! If he does not desist," Abu Jahl, from his disbelief and his denial, "We will surely drag him by the forelock," meaning We shall seize him by his forelock; the angels will pull him by his forelock and cast him into the Fire.
Muhammad said: It is said, 'You seized (safa'ta) something,' when you grasp it and pull it with a strong pull.
﴿كلا لَئِن لم ينْتَه﴾ أَبُو جهل عَن كفره وتكذبيه ﴿لنسفعن بالناصية﴾ لَنَأْخُذَنَّ بِنَاصِيَتِهِ تَجُرُّهُ الْمَلائِكَةُ بِنَاصِيتَهِ فَتُلْقِيهِ فِي النَّارِ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: يُقَالُ: سَفَعَتَ بِالشَّيْءِ إِذَا قَبَضْتَ عَلَيْهِ وجبذته جبذاً شَدِيدا.
