[And those who were given the Scripture did not become divided except after there came to them the clear evidence].
Muhammad said: It is said: Meaning, they did not become divided in their religious sects and their disbelief in the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, except after they realized that he is the one they were promised [to see] in the Torah and the Gospel.
﴿وَمَا تَفَرَّقَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ إِلا مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَتْهُمُ الْبَيِّنَة﴾
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: قِيلَ: يَعْنِي: مَا تَفَرَّقُوا فِي مِلَلِهِمْ وَكُفْرِهِمْ بِالنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِلَّا أَنْ تَفَطَّنُوا أَنَّهُ الَّذِي وُعِدُوا بِهِ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ وَالْإِنْجِيلِ
