{And the mountains will be like wool,} meaning like wool, {fluffed up,} which is the weakest form of wool.
Muhammad said: The singular of "al-'ihn" is "'ihnah," similar to "sufah" (a single tuft of wool) and "suf" (wool).
Yahya said: In the recitation of Ibn Mas'ud, it is read as "like red wool, fluffed up."
﴿وَتَكون الْجبَال كالعهن﴾ كالصوف ﴿المنفوش﴾ وَهُوَ أَضْعَفُ الصُّوفِ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: وَاحِدُ الْعِهْنِ: (عِهْنَةٌ) مِثْلُ صُوفَةٍ وَصُوفٍ.
قَالَ يَحْيَى: وَهِيَ فِي قِرَاءَةِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ (كَالصُّوفِ الْأَحْمَرِ المنفوش).
