"And his wife, the carrier of firewood." Some interpreted this as: she used to place thorns on the path of the Messenger of Allah.
Muhammad said: Whoever read 'hammalatu' (carrier) in the nominative case (raf'), it is based on the meaning: 'He and his wife, the carrier of firewood, will enter the Fire,' where 'hammalatu' is an adjective for her. And whoever read it in the accusative case (nasb) as 'hammalata' (the carrier), then its accusative case is for the purpose of censure (dhamm), meaning: [I censure] the carrier of firewood.
