{And there is none comparable to Him} And there was none comparable to Him (i.e., like or similar to Him).

The interpretation of al-Kalbi: "The polytheists said to the Prophet [peace be upon him]: 'Ascribe your Lord to us and describe Him,' so Allah revealed this Surah."

﴿وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ﴾ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ أَحَدٌ كُفُوًا لَهُ (أَيْ: مِثْلٌ وَشِبْهٌ). تَفْسِيرُ الْكَلْبِيِّ: " إِنَّ الْمُشْرِكِينَ قَالُوا لِلنَّبِيِّ [ﷺ]: انْسِبْ لَنَا رَبَّكَ وَصِفْهُ فَأَنَزْلَ الله هَذِه السُّورَة ".
