545 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "So the thunderbolt took you," so they died. Then Moses stood up, weeping and supplicating to Allah, saying: "O Lord, what shall I say to the Children of Israel when I return to them, having destroyed their best? If You had willed, You could have destroyed them and me before. Will You destroy us for what the foolish among us have done?" Then Allah revealed to Moses that these seventy were among those who had taken the calf. Then Allah brought them back to life, and they stood up and lived, man by man, looking at one another as to how they had been revived. He said: That is His saying: "Then We resurrected you after your death."

His saying: "That you may be grateful"

546 - My father narrated to us, Ibn Abi 'Umar narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Mis'ar, from 'Awn ibn 'Abd Allah: His saying: "That you may be grateful," gratitude from Allah is an obligation. And Sufyan also said:

His saying: "And We shaded you with the clouds"

547 - 'Ammar ibn Khalid al-Wasiti narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-Hasan and Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, from Asbagh ibn Zayd, from al-Qasim ibn Abi Ayyub, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: Then He shaded them in the wilderness with clouds. Abu Muhammad (Ibn Abi Hatim) said: It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar, al-Rabi' ibn Anas, Abu Mijlaz, al-Dahhak, and al-Suddi something similar to what Ibn 'Abbas said.

548 - Muhammad ibn 'Ubayd Allah ibn al-Munadi narrated to me in what he wrote to me, Yunus ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And We shaded you with the clouds," he said: This was in the wilderness; the shade of the clouds from the sun. And something similar was narrated from al-Hasan.

The second interpretation:

549 - My father narrated to us, Abu Hudhayfah narrated to us, Shibl narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: "And We shaded you with the clouds," he said: It was not common clouds; it is the cloud in which Allah comes on the Day of Resurrection, and it was only for them.

550 - 'Ali ibn al-Mubarak informed us in what he wrote to me, Zayd ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, Ibn Thawr narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj: Regarding His saying: "And We shaded you with the clouds," Ibn Jurayj said: Others said: It is a cloud that is cooler than this and more pleasant.
