941 - Al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Ibrahim narrated to us, from 'Abd Allah ibn Bashshar, Surur ibn al-Mughirah narrated to me, from 'Abbad ibn Mansur, from al-Hasan, who said regarding Allah's saying: "But they will never wish for it, ever, because of what their hands have put forth." I said: "Do you consider that if they had desired death when He said to them 'then wish [for it],' that they would have been dead?" He said: "No, by Allah, they would not have died even if they had wished for death, nor would they have wished for it. Allah has said what you heard: 'But they will never wish for it, ever, because of what their hands have put forth. And Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers.'"
His saying: "And Allah is Knowing."
942 - Musa ibn Harun al-Tusi narrated to us in what he wrote to me, al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Marwudhi narrated to us, Shayban ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And Allah is Knowing," he said: All-Knowing.
His saying: "Of the wrongdoers."
943 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas: "Of the wrongdoers," [meaning] the disbelievers.
His saying: "And you will surely find them the most greedy of people for life."
944 - Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Sufyan, from al-A'mash, from Muslim al-Batin, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding: "And you will surely find them the most greedy of people for life," he said: The Jews. It was narrated from Abu al-'Aliyah and al-Rabi' ibn Anas similarly.
945 - Al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bashshar narrated to us, Surur ibn al-Mughirah narrated to me, from 'Abbad ibn Mansur, from al-Hasan, who said regarding: "And you will surely find them the most greedy of people for life," he said: The hypocrite is the most greedy of people for life, and he is greedier for life than the polytheist.
His saying: "And [more greedy] than those who associate others with Allah."
946 - Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Sufyan, from al-A'mash, from Muslim al-Batin, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding: "And [more greedy] than those who associate others with Allah," he said: The non-Arabs.
