His saying: "And Solomon did not disbelieve."

989 - 'Ali ibn Harb al-Mawsili narrated to us, al-Qasim ibn Yazid narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Husayn, from 'Imran al-Sulami—meaning Ibn al-Harith—from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: "When Solomon son of David died, a devil stood up and said: 'I will guide you to a treasure the likes of which has no equal.' They asked: 'And where is it?' He said: 'Under his throne.' They said: 'This is magic.' So the nations transmitted it and adopted it as magic. Thus, Allah revealed the justification for Solomon: 'And they followed what the devils recited during the kingdom of Solomon. And Solomon did not disbelieve.' The remainder of those narrations are things that the people of Iraq discuss."

990 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Bashir informed me, from Qatadah regarding the word of Allah: "And Solomon did not disbelieve," he said: "It was not by his consultation nor his command."
