The second interpretation:

1044 - Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, from Warqa', from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: regarding His saying: 'And say: Unzurna (Look upon us),' he said: 'Make us understand, O Muhammad; clarify for us.'

1045 - 'Ali ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Abi Maryam narrated to us, Mufaddal informed us, Abu Sakhr narrated to me: 'Do not say Ra'ina and say: Unzurna,' he said: 'Allah commanded them to say: Unzurna, so that they might honor His Messenger and revere him.'

1046 - My father narrated to us, 'Isa ibn Ja'far, the Judge of al-Rayy, narrated to us, Muslim ibn Khalid narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: 'Unzurna,' he said: 'They say: "Make us understand and do not be hasty with us; we shall follow you, if Allah wills."

His saying: "And listen"

1047 - Al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah narrated to us, Surur ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, from 'Abbad ibn Mansur, from al-Hasan, regarding His saying: "And listen," he said: 'He commanded them to listen to his speech and accept from him, but they refused that and disobeyed their Lord.'

His saying: "And for the disbelievers is a painful punishment"

1048 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah: 'And for the disbelievers is a painful punishment,' meaning: 'excruciating.'

Abu Muhammad [Ibn Abi Hatim] said: 'The mention of what was narrated regarding this has already preceded.'

His saying: "Those who disbelieve from the People of the Scripture and the polytheists do not like that any good should be sent down to you from your Lord"

1049 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Hammad ibn Talhah narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: 'That a man from the Jews, who was called Rifa'ah ibn Zayd, used to come to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and when he met him and spoke to him, he would say: "Lend us your hearing (ar'ini sam'aka)." Then he would go forward to the believers and say: "Do not say Ra'ina." Then He informed them: "Those who disbelieve from the People of the Scripture and the polytheists do not like that any good should be sent down to you from your Lord."

١٠٤٤ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الصَّبَّاحِ ثنا شَبَابَةُ عَنْ وَرْقَاءَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ: «١» وَقُولُوا انْظُرْنَا أَفْهِمْنَا يَا مُحَمَّدُ بَيِّنْ لَنَا.

١٠٤٥ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ أَنْبَأَ مُفَضَّلٌ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو صَخْرٍ: لَا تَقُولُوا راعنا وقولوا انظرنا قَالَ: أَمَرَهُمُ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولُوا: انْظُرْنَا لِيُعَزِّرُوا رَسُولَهُ وَيُوَقِّرُوهُ.

١٠٤٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا عِيسَى بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَاضِي الرِّيُّ ثنا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَوْلُهُ: انْظُرْنَا قَالَ: يَقُولُونَ: أَفْهِمْنَا وَلا تَعْجَلْ عَلَيْنَا سَوْفَ نَتَّبِعُكَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ.

١٠٤٧ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا سُرُورُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ مَنْصُورٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَوْلُهُ: وَاسْمَعُوا قَالَ: أَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَسْمَعُوا قَوْلَهُ، وَيَقْبَلُوا عَنْهُ فَأَبَوْا ذَلِكَ وَعَصَوْا رَبَّهُمْ.

قَوْلُهُ: وَلِلْكَافِرِينَ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

١٠٤٨ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بن يحي، أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ ثنا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ: وَلِلْكَافِرِينَ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ أَيْ مُوجِعٌ.

قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ: تَقَدَّمَ ذِكْرُ مَا رُوِيَ فِيهِ.

قَوْلُهُ: مَا يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ وَلَا الْمُشْرِكِينَ أَنْ ينزل عليكم من خير من ربكم

١٠٤٩ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ حَمَّادٍ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ: أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْيَهُودِ كَانَ يُدْعَى رِفَاعَةَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ كَانَ يَأْتِي النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- فَإِذَا لَقِيَهُ فَكَلَّمَهُ قَالَ: أَرْعِنِي سَمْعَكَ، ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمَ إِلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَقَالَ: لَا تَقُولُوا رَاعِنَا. ثُمَّ أَخْبَرَهُمْ: مَا يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ وَلَا الْمُشْرِكِينَ أَنْ يُنَزَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ من خير من ربكم
