His saying: "And the Messenger will be a witness over you."
1336 - 'Amr al-Awdi narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Sa'id, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Nuh (Noah) will be called on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be said to him: 'Did you convey (the message)?' He will say: 'Yes.' Then you will be called to testify regarding the conveyance." He said: "Then I will testify against you after him."
1337 - Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah narrated to us, Hajjaj narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, who said: I asked 'Ata': "And the Messenger will be a witness over you"? He said: "He will testify that they believed in the truth when it came to them, accepted it, and attested to it." It was narrated from Abu al-'Aliyah, 'Ikrimah, Qatadah, and al-Rabi' ibn Anas similarly.
1338 - Al-Hasan ibn Ahmad narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd ibn Bashshar narrated to us, Surur ibn al-Mughirah narrated to me, from 'Abbad ibn Mansur, from al-Hasan: "And the Messenger will be a witness over you," meaning: just/fair.
1339 - 'Isam ibn Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far narrated to us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b: "To be witnesses over the people": They will be witnesses over the people on the Day of Resurrection. They were witnesses over the people of Nuh, the people of Hud, the people of Salih, the people of Shu'ayb, and the family of Pharaoh, that their messengers had conveyed the message to them and that they had belied them. In the recitation of Ubayy ibn Ka'b, it is: "And you will be witnesses over the people on the Day of Resurrection."
His saying: "And We did not make the Qiblah (direction of prayer) which you were upon."
1340 - Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah narrated to us, Hajjaj narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, who said: I asked 'Ata': "And We did not make the Qiblah which you were upon"? 'Ata' said to me: "Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem)." It was narrated from 'Atiyyah and al-Suddi similarly.
His saying: "Except that We might distinguish those who follow the Messenger from those who turn back on their heels."
1341 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih (the scribe of al-Layth) narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "Except that We might distinguish those who follow the Messenger from those who turn back on their heels." Ibn 'Abbas said: "To distinguish the people of certainty from the people of doubt and suspicion."

قوله: وَيَكُونَ الرَّسُولُ عَلَيْكُمْ شَهِيدًا
١٣٣٦ - حَدَّثنا عَمْرٌو الأَوْدِيُّ، ثنا وَكِيعٌ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: يُدْعَى نُوحٌ يوم القيامة، فيقال له: هل بَلَّغْتَ: فَيَقُولُ نَعَمْ. فَتُدْعَوْنَ لِلشَّهَادَةِ بِالْبَلاغِ. قَالَ: ثُمَّ أَشْهَدُ عَلَيْكُمْ بَعْدَهُ «١» .
١٣٣٧ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الصَّبَّاحِ، ثنا حَجَّاجٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ: وَيَكُونَ الرَّسُولُ عَلَيْكُمْ شَهِيدًا قَالَ: يَشْهَدُ أَنَّهُمْ قَدْ آمَنُوا بِالْحَقِّ إِذْ جَاءَهُمْ وَقَبِلُوهُ وَصَدَّقُوا بِهِ وَرُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ، وَعِكْرِمَةَ، وَقَتَادَةَ وَالرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
١٣٣٨ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ بْنِ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنِي سُرُورُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ: «وَيَكُونَ الرَّسُولُ عَلَيْكُمْ شَهِيدًا» أَيْ:
عَدْلا.
١٣٣٩ - حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامُ بْنُ رَوَّادٍ، ثنا آدَمُ، ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ، عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ: «لِتَكُونُوا شُهَدَاءَ عَلَى النَّاسِ» : فَكَانُوا شُهَدَاءَ عَلَى النَّاسِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ، كَانُوا شُهَدَاءَ عَلَى قَوْمِ نُوحٍ وَقَوْمِ هُودٍ وَقَوْمِ صَالِحٍ وَقَوْمِ شُعَيْبٍ، وَآلِ فِرْعَوْنَ، أَنَّ رُسُلَهُمْ قَدْ بَلَّغَتْهُمْ وَأَنَّهُمْ كَذَّبُوا وَهِيَ فِي قِرَاءَةِ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ:
وَتَكُونُوا شُهَدَاءَ عَلَى النَّاسِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
قَوْلُهُ: وَمَا جَعَلْنَا الْقِبْلَةَ الَّتِي كُنْتَ عَلَيْهَا
١٣٤٠ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الصَّبَّاحِ، ثنا حَجَّاجٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ: وَمَا جَعَلْنَا الْقِبْلَةَ الَّتِي كُنْتَ عَلَيْهَا قَالَ لِي عَطَاءٌ: بَيْتُ الْمَقْدِسِ.
وَرُوِيَ عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ وَالسُّدِّيِّ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
قَوْلُهُ: إِلا لِنَعْلَمَ مَنْ يَتَّبِعُ الرَّسُولَ مِمَّنْ يَنْقَلِبُ عَلَى عَقِبَيْهِ
١٣٤١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ كَاتِبُ اللَّيْثِ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ «إِلا لِنَعْلَمَ مَنْ يَتَّبِعُ الرَّسُولَ مِمَّنْ يَنْقَلِبُ عَلَى عَقِبَيْهِ» قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: لِنَمِيزَ أَهْلَ الْيَقِينِ مِنْ أَهْلِ الشك والريبة.
